5th and 6th Graders Ski Free in Utah and Colorado

6344_cmyk.jpgLearning to ski young was one of the best gifts my dad ever gave me--and in the west it's pretty easy for parents to do the same for their kids. 5th and 6th graders can ski free in both Utah and Colorado with each states' respective 5th/6th grade passport programs.

In Utah:

  • The 5th Grade Ski & Snowboard Passport allows you to ski or snowboard free at each of Utah's 13 participating resorts. That's 39 days of free skiing and snowboarding.
  • The 6th Grade SnowPass allows kids to ski or snowboard one day free at each of Utah's 13 participating resorts. That's 13 days of free skiing and snowboarding.

And in Colorado:

  • All 5th graders to ski for free. 21 ski resorts each offering three days of free skiing and snowboarding for 63 days of hitting the slopes.
  • The 6th grade passport program gives 6th graders four days of skiing and snowboarding at each of the 21 participating resorts for $99....that's 84 days of skiing.

Remember that to participate in the CSCUSA 6th grade program your kid must have participated in the prior years' 5th grade program. Also, the bad news for Colorado 5th and 6th graders, is that none of the Vail resorts is participating this year--we'd previously heard that they would remain part of these programs despite leaving the Colorado ski industry organization this last spring, but evidently we misheard. Update: Vail PR wrote to let us know that although they are not participating in the CSCUSA 5th/6th Passport programs, they have their own similar program called the School of Shred Pass. Hi Snow Hugger! We’re responding to your blog entry titled, “5th and 6th Graders Ski Free in Colorado and Utah”. You mention that Vail Resorts is not participating this year. Not true. While it’s true that we’re no longer members of Colorado Ski Country USA, we are absolutely offering a 5th and 6th grade program at each of our four Colorado resorts - Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone. We believe it’s an incredibly valuable program in helping to create more lifelong participants in winter sports.

Vail Resorts’ program is called “School of Shred” 5th and 6th Grade Pass. Our four Colorado resorts will continue to offer up to three free, unrestricted days of skiing/riding for fifth graders. Sixth graders will receive four unrestricted days of skiing/riding at our four Colorado resorts for $99.

For details on how to register for the School of Shred Pass, visit www.coloradopass.com.

Sincerely, Vail Resorts PR
